Doula’s Responsibilities


A doula has many responsibilities, both professionally and ethically. The doula must maintain a high standard of personal conduct as a birth doula. She should strive to maintain proficiency in the profession through continuing education, being affiliated with related organizations, and associations with other doulas.

The doula’s primary responsibility is to her clients. She should help her clients maintain their ability to make informed decisions, while respecting their privacy and keeping information obtained confidential.

The doula has a responsibility to treat colleagues as well as their clients with respect, fairness, and courtesy. She should maintain the integrity of the doula profession, while promoting the general welfare of women, their babies, and whenever possible, their family and friends.
